I am endorsing Karen Eoff for re-election for County Council, District 8. She has gained significant experience in her positions with the County Council, the Charter Commission, and the Redistricting Commission. Karen has worked on all of the legislation which I have introduced, and has followed each issue of importance to the District from start to implementation. She will be a great addition to the County Council – she’s apolitical — her interest is in doing what is best for the people of the island.

I had the privilege and honor of working with Karen on the 2009-2010 Hawai'i County Charter Commission. Her intelligence, work ethic and organizational skills were invaluable to the Commission and I have no doubt that the Commission could not have succeeded without her. She is one of the most honest, hard-working and humble persons that I have known. She genuinely cares about the community and this is reflected in her many contributions. Karen is clearly the best choice for Hawai'i County Council District 8.

I had the opportunity to work closely with Karen when I served as County Clerk. As the bridge between the County Council offices in Hilo, Waimea and Kona, Karen was the quintessential team player who always looked for ways to enhance communication between the offices. She keeps her pleasant, helpful and patient demeanor, even under the most difficult circumstances. Karen's history of community service demonstrates her long-standing commitment to the best interests of Hawaii Island. I heartily and unqualifiedly endorse her.

Karen was the secretary of the 2011 Redistricting Commission, and kept us all on track, ensuring that we followed the process flawlessly. She offered many valuable insights, and this ability to problem-solve creatively is just one of the many assets that she can bring to the table as District 8 representative. Having worked in the Council office, she is fully aware of all the issues facing her district and the island as a whole. Karen is able to work well with others - another critical trait.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve on the Hawai'i County Council representing North Kona, District 8, and the people of Hawai'i Island for the last four years.

For the 2016 election, I humbly ask for your support again, as I seek re-election to continue my service.

We have much to be proud of these last two terms, but there are many critical issues ahead, and still much to be done.
